The Fleet Mechanic at Resource Transport plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of Resource Transport’s fleet. The mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Kenworth tractors, Timpte trailers, and engines including Paccar and Cummins models. This position requires a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail and a commitment to delivering quality workmanship.
Schedule: 2 weeks on, 1 week off, 12-hour shifts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform thorough diagnostic tests, troubleshooting, and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, electrical systems, and other components to maintain fleet performance and safety.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance services to identify and address potential issues before they become major problems.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts usage and work performed, using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Ensure all work complies with DOT, EPA, and company safety regulations.
- Assist in managing shop and mobile parts inventory to minimize downtime.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment both in the shop and in the service truck.
- Communicate clearly with drivers, dispatch, and leadership regarding repair status, timelines, and equipment needs.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or technical certification in diesel mechanics preferred.
- Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic, with emphasis on road service or field repair work strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Kenworth tractors, Timpte trailers, and Paccar and Cummins engines.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision while making sound repair decisions in the field.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools, roadside troubleshooting techniques, and CMMS systems.
- CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) preferred but not required.
- Must provide own tools and maintain a professional appearance per company policy.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs., bend, kneel, climb, and work in varying outdoor environments.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
