The Shop Supervisor plays a pivotal role in overseeing the maintenance and repair operations of Resource Transport’s fleet. This position is responsible for leading mechanics, ensuring work quality, and maintaining the safety and reliability of diesel-powered trucks and trailers. The Shop Foreman/Lead Mechanic provides technical expertise, mentors team members, coordinates daily workload, and ensures compliance with company and regulatory standards.
Schedule: 2 weeks on, 1 week off, 12-hour shifts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead, train, and supervise Fleet Mechanics, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and collaboration.
- Plan, prioritize, and schedule maintenance and repair work to minimize equipment downtime.
- Review completed Work Orders to ensure accuracy, proper documentation, and Fleetio updates.
- Ensure all maintenance complies with safety regulations (DOT, EPA) and Company standards.
- Maintain clear communication with leadership, team members, and vendors.
- Oversee shift changes, Work Order handoffs, and daily operational meetings.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in fleet maintenance supervision or heavy equipment repair.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or trade school training preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in diesel, heavy equipment, or fleet maintenance with strong diagnostic skills using computer software including Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link (DDDL), J-Pro, Davie, and Bendix ACom.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and fleet management systems (Fleetio experience preferred).
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and safety awareness.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Required to wear proper PPE including but not limited to steel-toed boots, hard hat/bump cap, safety glasses, and appropriate gloves when necessary.
- Able to provide own basic mechanic tools.
- Be able to read, write, and speak English
Physical Requirements:
- Able to perform tasks outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, and inclement weather.
- Able to wear proper PPE including but not limited to steel-toed boots, hard hat/bump cap, safety glasses, and appropriate gloves when necessary.
- Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Be able to climb ladders, stairs and equipment
- Be able to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and/or crouch while performing a hand task.
- Be able to pull, push, and lift 50 pounds.
