The Truck & Trailer Mechanic at Resource Transport plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of Resource Transport’s fleet. This unique position provides a balance of in-shop maintenance and repair work along with on-site emergency and mobile repair services. The mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Kenworth tractors, Timpte trailers, and engines including Paccar and Cummins models.
This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in the field while also collaborating with the shop maintenance team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform thorough diagnostic tests, troubleshooting, and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems both in the shop and in roadside environments.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance services to identify and address potential issues before they become major problems.
- Respond promptly to road calls and emergency breakdowns, ensuring quick and effective repairs to minimize downtime.
- Maintain and operate a fully equipped service truck with necessary tools, parts, and supplies for field service work.
- Collaborate with shop-based mechanics to complete scheduled repairs, share knowledge, and uphold maintenance best practices.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts usage and work performed, using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Ensure all work complies with DOT, EPA, and company safety regulations.
- Assist in managing shop and mobile parts inventory to minimize downtime.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment both in the shop and in the service truck.
- Communicate clearly with drivers, dispatch, and leadership regarding repair status, timelines, and equipment needs.
- Provide professional customer service while representing the company during roadside repairs.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or trade school training preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in diesel, heavy equipment, or fleet maintenance preferred.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and fleet management systems (Fleetio experience preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in diesel, heavy equipment, or fleet maintenance with strong diagnostic skills using computer software including Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link (DDDL), J-Pro, Davie, and Bendix ACom.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and safety awareness.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Able to provide own basic mechanic tools.
- Be able to read, write, and speak English.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up 50 lbs and occasionally more with assistance of medical devices.
- Able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb for extended periods during the workday.
- Able to work underneath, around, and inside heavy equipment in small spaces.
- Able to use hands and fingers for gripping, handling tools, operating diagnostic equipment, and performing precise mechanical repairs.
- Able to frequently reach above shoulder level and below the waist
- Able to safely operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, jacks, hoists, and other shop equipment.
- Able to climb ladders and mount/dismount heavy equipment safety.
- Able to work in varying environmental conditions including heat, cold, dust, grease, noise, vibration, and exposure to chemicals or fumes.
- Able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, and respirators when required.
- Able to visually inspect equipment, read gauges and technical manuals, and distinguish colors related to wiring and diagnostics.

Schedule: 2 weeks on / 1 week off rotation, 12-hour shifts
